The College Eden Park p>
Created in 2011 under the direction of its founder Franck Mesnel, since 2015 les Papillons du Ciel is an officially recognized non-profit association, under the French law of 1901.
Built in 2014 thanks to donations to the association, the ‘Collège du Rocher’, situated on the Ile aux Nattes (a tiny island south of Ile de Sainte-Marie) in Madagascar is the only college on the island, this allowing the local children to continue their schooling locally. Consisting of five buildings, a library, and a dining hall, with eight teachers it has an annual roll of 97 pupils from 9 to 17 years old.
As part of his commitment to environmental sustainability, Franck Mesnel decided to recycle the samples and off-cuts of Eden Park shirts. The pupils’ mothers, who are also fine seamstresses turn them into:
- Hairbands- Eyewear cases- Lapel badges in the form of Bow Ties
A lapel badge sells for 3€ in Eden Park stores or online and allows us to pay for school lunches for one child (1€ for the meal, 1€ for the seamstress, 1€ for logistics and material).
Including school lessons, Rugby and other extra-curricular activities the Association encourages the children to learn in the right conditions::-A vegetable garden created and maintained by the pupils-A canteen where they are provided with three lunches per week.- “Cétamada” – a program of discovery and protection of humpback whale
«Being lucky enough to come from an educated family, to have gone to University and to have played Rugby at the highest level, I am convinced that learning and education are the decisive factors in ensuring the successful integration and harmony in all societies. “Les Papillons du Ciel” was created in order to develop the values of discipline, individual courage, team spirit and mutual respect; and we there are more and more education-based projects in the pipeline.”
